If there's something strange in your neighbourhood, call the Calgary Ghostbusters.

Okotoks Cinemas hosted a special event on Saturday, March 23 for the premiere of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the latest instalment in the Ghostbusters franchise.

The event featured a guest appearance by the Calgary Ghostbusters, an Alberta-wide group committed to raising awareness and funds for charity while celebrating their favourite film series.

"We do charity work mostly for Alberta Children's Hospital," said member David Blondeau, who was joined by his fellow Ghostbusters at a booth in the theatre to sell merchandise and raise funds for the hospital. "We also do charities such as Hospice Calgary Walk & Run and Heart Beats Children's Society, and we raise money and food donations for various food banks across the province."

According to Blondeau, the group has over 30 members throughout Alberta, 18 of whom came to Okotoks for the event.

"We're just trying to raise awareness about who we are and what we do," Blondeau said. "Wherever they need us, they call us."

The event also featured plenty of homages to classic Ghostbusters character Slimer, including a slime-making activity, "slime-flavoured" popcorn and special Slimer popcorn buckets.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the sequel to the 2021 film Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was partly filmed in Turner Valley.
