Ward 1 trustee debate tonight at Oilfields High

The two candidates for the Longview-Black Diamond-Turner Valley public school trustee position will square off in a forum at Oilfields High School tonight, Oct. 5.

The two candidates for the Longview-Black Diamond-Turner Valley public school trustee position will square off in a forum at Oilfields High School tonight, Oct. 5.

The two candidates for Ward 1 are incumbent Foothills School Division trustee Jeannine Tucker, who has served one term after beating long-time trustee Jerry Muelaner in the 2013 municipal election.

Running against her is Heather Pfeil.

Pfeil has lived in Turner Valley since 2008, where she moved from Okotoks. Both her daughters are graduates of Foothills Composite High School. She is a founder of the 4-H Valley Aces and is a 4-H leader. Pfeil currently sits on a Family and Community Support Services advisory board in the Turner Valley area.

Pfeil’s résumé also includes certification related to child development, including mental health first-aid, hearing impaired coaching and others.

Tucker has lived in Black Diamond for the past 20 years. Both of her daughters, Becca and Harley, graduated from Oilfields High School. When not doing duties as trustee, Jeannine is the owner/operator of the canteen at Oilfields School, providing daily dishes for students.

She is a former education assistant with the division.

Both Tucker and her husband, Jim, are graduates from schools in the public division – Jeannine from Foothills Composite and Jim from then Senator Riley High School in High River.

Tucker said it has been a pleasure to serve Ward 1over the past four years.

The forum starts tonight, Oct. 5, at Oilfields High School.

The other trustee forums include the Cayley-Blackie-Heritage area, Ward 2, is on Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at Blackie School. There are four candidates running in Ward 2, they are Jaimie Chouhan, Martha Klassen, Toby Kliem, Vivienne Nicol, Yvonne Sherman and Bill Young.

The forum for Ward 4 — Okotoks — is Oct. 12 at 6:45 p.m. at Westmount School. The nine candidate vying for two trustees seats in Okotoks are, Larry Albrecht, Corrine Babb, Jerry Clark, Claire Comtois, incumbent Laurie Copland, Mary Daunt, Cindy Krebs, Wayne Meikle and Sharon Nichols.

The municipal election is Oct. 16. Advanced polls will be held for school boards with the corresponding advanced polls in the municipality’s advance poll in the area the trustees represent.
