Vandals slash tires

One of the victims of a tire-slashing vandalism spree in the Woodhaven area on Aug. 23 is hoping the culprits will be held accountable.

“Hopefully if they catch them they’ll make them pay for this. I’ll keep the receipt,” said Real Bernier.

Bernier’s pickup truck was one of six vehicles on his street to have its tires slashed sometime overnight on Aug. 23.

Bernier said it would’ve happened overnight sometime and he didn’t hear anything.

“Some people, maybe they heard something blow up like a compressor, bang,” he

said.

Bernier said RCMP responded quickly the morning after and calling his home.

Police say the tires were punctured with a small tool.

Okotoks RCMP Sgt. Sukh Randhawa said the total value of the vandalism could end up being high given the cost to replace the tires.

“It would add up,” said Randhawa.

He asked anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to call police.

“We’re looking for public assistance if somebody has any information,” said Randhawa.

Bernier said it’s a close neighbourhood where people look out for each other and he expects everyone to watch a little more closely now.

Anyone with information regarding these crimes is asked to call the Okotoks RCMP at 403-995-6400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
