Turner Valley RCMP are looking for a suspect caught on surveillance camera who is believed to be involved with the theft of lower-quality opioid-like sedative pills at the Turner Valley Pharmacy in the early morning of Oct. 18.

Turner Valley RCMP officers are on the lookout for a thief who stole non-prescription drugs from a pharmacy in town this week.

At approximately 4 p.m. on Oct. 18, RCMP were alerted by an alarm at the pharmacy, where a male suspect stole lower-quality, opioid-like sedative pills including Apo-Tramadol (a central nervous system pain reliever) and Apo-Temazepam (a sedative causing respiratory depression), according to Turner Valley RCMP Staff Sgt. Dwayne Helgeson.

The culprit gained entry to the Sunset Blvd. business by breaking the glass on the front door.

The suspect seen on surveillance video is a medium-built Caucasian man wearing a blue toque with white writing, a black waist-length coat, blue jeans, light-brown running shoes, mismatched red and blue gloves and he used a grey t-shirt to conceal his face.

“We have good video of him,” said Helgeson. “They were in and out fast – we're talking minutes. They probably spent no more than five minutes on the scene.”

Helgeson said this is the second theft at the pharmacy. The first occurred in the middle of the night about a month ago when prescription drugs were taken. Entry was also gained through the front door.

Helgeson said he expects thefts in the region to drop following the arrest of two alleged large-scale thieves this month.

A Calgary man who was arrested yesterday is believed to be involved in one of the region's most prolific thefts across southern Alberta last summer. Among items recovered was an antique car and trailer that were stolen from Black Diamond.

“There was minor damage to the car and trailer as a result of the arrest by Calgary Police,” he said.

RCMP are asking anyone who might have noticed suspicious activity at or near the Turner Valley Pharmacy the early morning of Oct. 18 to contact the Turner Valley RCMP at 403-933-4224. Anonymous tips can be made to CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
