A game of cat-and-mouse along the banks of the sheep River ended in one arrest and the recovery of a stolen truck Thursday afternoon.

According to Cpl. Julie Lagrange of the Turner Valley RCMP, an officer was in the process of pulling over a vehicle west of Longview believed to be involved in drug-related activity when it sped off.

The truck, which was later confirmed to be stolen out of Calgary and bearing stolen plates, fled east on HWY 541.

Choosing not to pursue the vehicle a matter of public safety, RCMP units opted to track the vehicle's whereabouts from afar.

Soon after spotting the stolen vehicle turning down a dead-end street near Okalta Rd in southern Turner Valley, they found it abandoned, with a male suspect having fled on foot.

With police tracking the man along the north bank of the river, he was spotted crossing to the south, where he was soon apprehended.

Cpl. Lagrange noted the outstanding assistance offered by Turner Valley and Black Diamond Municipal enforcement, who provided extra sets of eyes when locating the fleeing suspect.

The suspect cannot be identified as he has not been formally charged, however it has been acknowledged that he has outstanding warrants for his arrest from other police forces.
