Zena Branson holds a board with more than 1,000 signatures for support of Edouard Muarice and his family. Maurice’s case was adjourned to June 22 as the Crown has not received an RCMP ballistics report from the alleged incident at the Maurice property on Feb. 24.

More disappointment for supporters of Edouard Maurice as his case was delayed for a fifth time. Maurice’s case was adjourned to June 22 as the Crown has not received an RCMP ballistics report from the alleged incident at the Maurice property on Feb. 24. ”The request was processed at the beginning of May and could take upwards of eight to 12 months to be completed,” said Crown prosecutor James Sawa. Maurice has been charged with aggravated assault, pointing a firearm and careless use of a firearm after police responded to alleged gunshots when he saw an individual prowling through vehicles on his property on Feb. 24. Two individuals fled the scene, with one suffering from an arm injury allegedly due to gunfire. Defence lawyer Tonii Roulston agreed to delaying the case for a month. “We need a report to set a defence and move forward,” said Roulston. It was disappointing for the more than 100 people who showed up in Okotoks on May 18. Bassano resident Zena Branson said the support isn’t going away any time soon. She was outside Okotoks provincial court on May 18 holding a banner signed by more than 1,000 people showing their support for the Maurice family, from all over the Foothills, Alberta, and elsewhere in Canada. While many people were signing in-person, there were also hundreds of signatures written by Branson herself on behalf of Facebook users who wanted to sign remotely. ”It’s so important to show that the support is more than just the 100 or so people who might be outside the courthouse,” said Branson. “It’s not easy for everyone who wants to be here to take time on a Friday morning at 9 a.m., but they’re still behind the family.”
