Reflecting on a year in the Foothills

It’s been a whirlwind of a year. We’ve had our fair share of ups and downs, but with the new year upon us I am grateful 2017 is ending with our family in good health, happiness and hope.

It’s been a whirlwind of a year.

We’ve had our fair share of ups and downs, but with the new year upon us I am grateful 2017 is ending with our family in good health, happiness and hope.

This year certainly kept me on my toes, both at home and here at the Wheel.

I consider myself lucky to be able to share in the Foothills’ moments - the good, the bad and the ugly.

This year I was able to tell the story of the Priddis post office, which was removed from the hamlet after the community rallied to save it, but has now (partially) returned.

I’ve followed lobbying efforts against logging in the Kananaskis.

I had the pleasure of sharing in two 100th birthday celebrations and one 99th. These are some of my favourite afternoons, learning people’s histories and having the honour of telling their stories.

There have been fundraisers and other feel-good moments that remind me of the generosity of our Foothills community.

I’ve heard trials and tribulations of Foothills residents and told their stories.

There have been countless photos at fun community events.

I always enjoy getting to go into the schools or visit community groups to see what they’re up to, like learning about the Newcomers Club on its anniversary and hearing about initiatives kids are running, like the Stocktober event at St. Mary’s and Little Free Pantries at Westmount School.

We live in a pretty incredible little corner of the world. Every week brings something new and I’m honoured to be part of it all.
