You know that feeling when everything just comes together, like snapping the last puzzle piece into place? That’s exactly what happened over the weekend for a group of 11 girls and their three coaches, who all learned the value of perseverance, determination, hard work and passion. The Foothills Fury U14 girls fought through a tough season, struggling at the beginning of May, but always inching ever closer to making their work pay off. In June, they turned up the heat and brought home the gold medal from the Calgary Minor Softball City Championships. But they didn’t stop there. A few more practices, a little rest, and a lot of fun over the course of three weeks brought them to the Alberta Softball Association Provincial Championships in Lacombe on the weekend. They more than played six games over three days - they got dirty, sweaty and gritty. They dug in and brought the fire to the tournament. Fury took the weekend by storm, winning all six games and only giving up 11 runs over three days. Their defensive plays were more than we’d seen all season. We heard their excitement, their hunger for that title as they cheered from the dugout like never before. These girls wanted it. And on Sunday afternoon, they shut down their sixth team to bring home the provincial gold medal. It was a long two months of toiling over that jigsaw, but this weekend the sun shone and our girls knew where every piece belonged. Go Fury!
