Okotoks RCMP had a busy weekend on the roads in town after officers found drugs and weapons in two separate traffic stops, and identified a suspected drunk driver during a checkstop.

Members of the Okotoks RCMP General Investigate Section and Crime Reduction Unit seized drugs and weapons in two traffic stops on Feb. 3 as part on ongoing investigations.

Officers found half-an-ounce of methamphetamine during a traffic stop at around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 3. Approximately two hours later, police stopped a second vehicle and found bear spray and batons in the vehicle. Police say there is no connection between the two incidents.

No charges have been laid yet and the investigation is ongoing.

Okotoks RCMP and Okotoks Municipal Enforcement officers held checkstops at two separate locations in town on the evening of Feb. 4.

Approximately 150 vehicles were checked and officers laid one charge of impaired driving. They also issued one 72-hour, alcohol-related driving suspension and conducted roadside alcohol checks on another three individuals.

Officers also issued a total of eight offenses under the provincial Traffic Safety Act.
