The new head Bison has plenty of Okotoks ties.

The Okotoks Jr. B Bisons announced Chris Beston as their head coach on Thursday. Beston was born in Okotoks and went on to have brief stints with the Calgary Hitmen, the Olds Grizzlys and the Calgary Canucks. He was a member of the Mac’s Midget Hockey champions UFA Bisons in 1998.

More recently, he has been seen behind the bench with the Okotoks Junior A Oilers from 2008-2010. He was an assistant coach under Dan MacDonald and then Garry VanHereweghe.

He has also coached in the Okotoks Minor Hockey Association with both the male and female programs.

Ryan Carson is the Bisons’ new assistant coach.

Carson played with the Calgary Canucks in the early 2000s. He later played for the SAIT Trojans.

Like Beston, he is now involved in the Okotoks Minor Hockey Association as a coach.

Beston replace Bison Wall of Famer Mike Hannigan who stepped down this year to spend more time with his family.
