Police recovered a stolen vehicle and made one arrest Saturday afternoon following an investigation.

On Saturday, Feb. 3 at approximately 1 p.m., High River RCMP members were conducting targeted crime enforcement in an area known to be frequented by offenders when they spotted an SUV stolen out of Calgary. They proceeded to conduct surveillance.

A male suspect emerged from a High River apartment building and fled when approached by officers. The man was captured a short distance away after a brief foot chase.

Police have charged Kyle Schuiling, 26, of Calgary with four separate charges of possession of stolen property and two charges of failing to comply with a recognizance.

According to High River Staff Sgt. Robin Alexander, his officers found stolen property within the recovered vehicle linking the accused to other offences around the Okotoks and High River area.

“We’re still investigating this particular matter,” said Alexander. “Certainly there was more than this individual involved in these other property offenses, but we haven’t gathered enough evidence yet.”

The investigation was the product of focused crime reduction techniques adopted by High River RCMP and other detachments in Alberta to tackle the issue of property crime in Alberta.

“We have the same individuals over and over again committing the same crimes, and part of that is knowing where these folks are living, keeping an eye on them.”

“In this particular case it paid dividends.”
