A plane crash near Black Diamond killed a male passenger on July 29.

Four people were rushed to hospital, one with serious injuries, following a head-on collision that took place southwest of Turner Valley last night. A 30-year-old Black Diamond man driving a small SUV was flown to Calgary via STARS Air Ambulance after his Honda, travelling east on 466 Avenue two kilometres southwest of Turner Valley, and a Dodge Caravan, travelling west, collided at around 9 p.m. The three occupants of the minivan, a 36-year-old woman and two youth ages six and 10, from Turner Valley, were transported to Calgary hospital via ground air ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Turner Valley RCMP responded to the scene, as well as emergency services from Black Diamond, Turner Valley and the MD of Foothills. The cause of the collision is unknown and remains under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Turner Valley RCMP Cpl. Tiffany McGregor said the occupants of both vehicles live close to the scene of the accident. She added that the roads were clear and dry and that the posted speed limit is 80km/hr on the road, which has narrow shoulders. McGregor encourages motorists to be careful when behind the wheel with the increase in traffic during the warmer months. “It’s summer time and the weather is nice so there’s an increased traffic on the roads so people need to do their due diligence and be extra careful and cautious,” she said. “Everyone can do their part in keeping the roads safe. School will be out soon and there will be increased traffic with people enjoying the outdoors.” The names of those involved in the accident were not released at press time.
