Firefighters in Black Diamond and Turner Valley are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a Turner Valley quonset containing two businesses last night.

T & T Woodworks and Black Valley Power Products on Sunset Blvd. went up in flames just before 7 p.m. on Oct. 29, said Turner Valley Fire Chief Glenn Baxter.

Baxter said a witness on the street reported flames coming from the front of the building and called it in.

“The front half of the building was fully engulfed upon arrival,” he said. “The fire was kept to the front part and there was smoke, heat and water damage to the back of the building.”

Baxter said a travel trailer next to the building received minor damage, as well.

Although flames reportedly reached as high as 60 feet, Baxter said fire crews were able to keep the blaze from damaging nearby buildings.

“Fire crews were there overnight and are there this morning hunting for hot spots,” he said. “It melted through the water lines so water supply crews will shut off the water supply.”

Baxter said crews are also investigating the cause of the blaze. He suspected it started inside the building and said foul play is not suspected, but is not yet ruled out.

The building was secured when firefighters arrived and it’s believed no one was in the building at the time of the blaze.
