There will be some crafty things going on as part of Enchanted Okotoks this weekend. Oh, everything is above board and on the table, it’s just the items will be somewhat magical at the Enchanted Okotoks Artisans’ Market on Saturday at the Elks Hall. “The Artisans Market for the Enchanted Okotoks it has to have a fantasy theme,” said event co-ordinator Robin Thibodeau of Inspiration Studio. “It has to be something that the artists handcrafted themselves and they have to make sure no copyright infringement are made.” There will be variety of magical items up for sale. “We’ve got an ink-painter, sculpture artists, glass artists, jewellers, felters, knitters a lot of it handcrafted locally,” Thibodeau said. Enchanted Okotoks has moved away from the Harry Potter theme of 2017 and the result is it artists getting flooded with ideas like the waters coming after Mickey Mouse in Fantasia. “It upped the ante a little bit, I introduced what called an ‘art challenge,’” Thibodeau said. “They had to an exclusive product or service that can only be found at that event.” She said artist Jeb Gaudet has made made unique wands. “He does hand-turn wands as part of his own business,” Thibodeau said. “He has made a specialized one as part of the event.” He will have the booth G’day Hand Wands. Some of the Okotoks area include Jenn Rondeau of Bird on a Barbed Wire. “She makes wooden toys, kind of going back in time when toys were made of wood,” Thibodeau said. “She has made fairies and gnomes as part of her exclusive art challenge.” Of course, shopping and trying to pick out a magical bag full of arts and crafts can work up a Jack-the-Giant like appetite. One artist is doing cookies with purple and blue icing the Okotoks Enchanted official colours. There will also be a dragon cake. Of course, Thibodeau will also have her unique work on display. “I have dragon sculptures of clay and mixed media,” Thibodeau said. “I will also have my art students with me as well.” She will be dressed for the occasion. “For sure, I had a costume made weeks ago,” she said. “This year I am an Enchanted Robin.” Thibodeau feels widening the theme to Enchanted, with categories of Wizards, Fantasy and Adventure adds a whole new perspective on things for this year’s Okotoks Enchanted. “We wanted to be more inclusive,” she said. “There were people who might be interested in medieval for example. We have a much wider variety of artists and artisans.” The Enchanted Okotoks Artisan’s Market runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Elks Hall.
