Winter storm warning issued


Get ready for more snow.

Environment Canada has issued a winter snowstorm warning in the MD of Foothills area as heavy snowfall is forecast to begin Wednesday afternoon.

Significant amounts of snow are expected to fall starting this afternoon and extending into Thursday, before starting to tape off tomorrow evening.

According to Environment Canada, an area of heavy snow formed over central Alberta and the mountain parks. It is expected to intensify and move southward over the course of the day.

As much as 25 to 35 cm is expected and accumulations could reach as much as 50 cm in the mountains and higher terrain in the foothills.

People are recommended to postpone unnecessary travel. Drivers are advised to use caution during snowy conditions and adjust driving habits accordingly.

People are also encouraged to have an emergency kit in their vehicle while driving in snowy winter conditions.
