Alberta politics just became much more interesting with the election of Jason Kenney as leader of the United Conservative Party. At face value the NDP government and the UCP are ideological opposites.
The debates inside and outside the legislature leading up to the 2019 provincial election will be heated. The NDP will use social issues against the UCP and the UCP will use economic issues against the NDP.
If Kenney continues with his track record of winning elections and becomes the next Premier of Alberta, the Alberta conversation with the federal Liberal government will be quite different. Equalization payments from the West to the East will be a hot topic for conversation.
Congratulations to Mr Kenney on his impressive political wins. First winning the leadership of the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party, uniting Alberta conservatives and then winning the leadership of the United Conservative Party in a relatively short timeframe was an enormous mountain to climb and he did it.

The Wizarding World of Okotoks organized by the Okotoks Arts Council last weekend was an overwhelming success! I had fun playing the part of Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge and I was just blown away by the community participation and attendance!
I figured that the morning would be slow but it would pick up in the afternoon. I was shocked when I arrived at 8:45 a.m. and the sidewalks were already full of costumed characters from the Harry Potter story. Downtown Okotoks was hopping all day.
Here at the Western Wheel we ran a photo booth for $5 donations to the 2017 Wheel Cares Charity Fundraising campaign. At the end of the day we had received $1,035 in donations for the Wheel Cares charities. Thank you!
