This Earth Day, Diamond Valley is kicking off a campaign to change perceptions about what belongs in the trash.

“Green and Blue are the New Black” is a six-month program beginning today (April 22) designed to change waste management practices.

The program emphasizes that most household waste doesn’t belong in the trash bin, also known as the black bin, a media release from the Town of Diamond Valley states.

The campaign will include education, answer questions and highlight benefits of a three-bin waste management system.

Blue and green bins are essential in the waste management practices of every home, according to the Town.

“The campaign will explain how the recycling process works and reassure everyone that their recyclable materials are indeed being recycled responsibly,” the Town said.

More than a catchy slogan, the campaign is a call to action as recycling and composting are critical steps in reducing landfill waste and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Town.

“By refining our habits around garbage, recycling and composting, we can make a lasting impact and ensure a vibrant future for our community and the planet,” the release states.

More information about what can be recycled or composted, along with details of the campaign, can be found on the Diamond Valley website or by watching the Town’s social media pages.
