Rider legend to attend celebrity game

Okotoks sports fans have the opportunity to see some of the Canadian Football League’s top players try to shag fly balls, pick-up grounders and try to launch a softball over the Seaman Stadium fence.
The third annual Henry Burris Celebrity Softball game will take place this Saturday at noon at Seaman Stadium.
Proceeds from the game will go towards the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Calgary and Area. The organization provides mentors to young people in the area.
Okotoks Dawgs vice-president Pablo Forno said there are still plenty of seats available for this special game.
Some of the celebrities expected to play include pro football’s all-time passing-for-yardage leader Damon Allen of the Toronto Argonauts.
It’s a great weekend to be green as some former Riders with Grey Cup glory are expected to play.
Kerry Joseph, last year’s CFL player of the year, who quarterbacked the Saskatchewan Roughriders to their third Grey Cup in history, is expected to suit up.
As well, one of the greatest rushers of all time, No. 34, George Reed, half of Saskatchewan’s famed George-and-Ronnie Show, will be at Seaman Stadium.
Other celebrities include Toronto Argo John Avery, B.C. quarterback Jarious Jackson, defensive lineman Fred Perry (a former Roughie, now an Eskimo) and Cabbie from The Score.
And of course, Stampeder quarterback Henry Burris and several past and former Stampeders.
Burris was both a ‘Little Brother’ and a ‘Big Brother’ when growing up in Spiro, Oklahoma. He credits his family and the Big Brothers organization for helping him make right decisions, which led to him getting a university degree and earning a six-figure contact as quarterback of the Calgary Stampeders.
The schedule for the Celebrity Softball Game on May 10 at Seaman Stadium is:
• 11:30 a.m.: doors open to the public;
• Noon – 1 p.m.: autograph session with celebrities;
• 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.: softball game.
Fans should bring their camera, as it is an opportunity to have your picture taken with one of Canada’s most famous sporting trophies, The Grey Cup.
The celebrities will participate in a Home Run Derby as part of the day’s festivities.
Tickets for the softball game are $5 each or $20 for a family. They are available at Grand Slam Sports at 20 McRae Street or phone 995-7006.
