Hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls are anticipated to compete — and remember — at the third annual Jessi Payne Memorial Rodeo this Saturday and Sunday at the High River Agricultural Society’s rodeo arena.
Payne, a former high school barrel racer while attending Foothills Composite High School, was killed in October of 2005 in a single vehicle rollover in Olds where she was attending college.
The Jessi Payne Memorial Scholarship has been established for the top barrel racer at the end of the year.
The buckle presented to the winner of the barrel racing at the Jessi Payne Memorial Rodeo this weekend, will receive a silver buckle designed by her stepfather, Wendel Friesen.
