A whole lot of Ice can chip away at the Rockies.
The Okotoks Junior B Ice went into the Calgary Rockies’ barn and came away with an 11-7 victory in both teams’ first games in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League’s season opener.
The Ice’s veteran goalie, Hayden Corney, who is in his third year with the team, got the win in net for Okotoks.
The Ice was led by Graham Corbett and Dylan Smith who both had hat tricks in the game.
Lane Malcolm carried his scoring touch with the Okotoks Bisons’ hockey team to lacrosse with a pair of goals. Rounding out the scoring for the Ice were Mark Corbett, Sam Betchel and Kieron McKinstry with a goal each.
McKinstry’s was the first of his junior career.
The Ice’s next game is tonight, May 7, when they play the Calgary Sabrecats at the South Fish Creek Arena.
Hot Icemen
The Icemen cooled down a heated rivalry. The Okotoks Icemen beat the High River Heat 13-5 in a Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Tier III Junior game on Friday.
Dan Zentner was the hottest Icemen has he had six points, three goals and three assists.
Matt Flemmer and Sean Finnson had four goals each for the Icemen.
Wade Taylor also had a goal to go with his four assists. The Icemen’s other goal came from Sean Higgins, who was playing his first game after missing all of last season with an injury.
Icemen goalie Tyler Dupuis and Rylan Northcott split the goaltending duties in the victory.
The Icemen’s next game is this Saturday when they play Fort McMurray in Didsbury.
