A few weeks ago on March 8, people around the world celebrated international women’s day. Many shared touching stories honouring the women in their lives, thanking moms, sisters and wives for supporting them and acting as role models.
We are, once again, in the planning stages for our annual 80 and over birthday party, which will be held on May 24. There is a sign-up sheet on our bulletin board for those who qualify for an invitation. We welcome everyone to our celebration, but the honorees will be celebrating a milestone birthday in 2015. Please ensure to include their full name and address as invitations are sent by mail.
Late Monday morning it started to snow and in no time the roads were a mess. Highway 2 between the Okotoks overpass and Aldersyde was closed both directions with semi trucks and cars all over the place. Twenty people were injured and rushed to hospitals.
Virginia has drafted an informative brochure for our club, you may be receiving one in your mailbox very soon. If you are new to town or have lived here for a time and now find you have time to socialize, check us out. I have seen many friendships formed over the years through interaction at Valley Neighbours. Someone once asked me what being a Valley Neighbours Club member is like and I could only compare it with belonging to a family.
The Windmill Theatre Players will present Nunsense at the Highwood Memorial Centre in High River and our events chairperson has arranged for interested VNC members to attend the dinner theatre performance on April 23. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. Cost is $45.
We are all going to die sometime. How we die or where or when we may die, as a rule, we generally do not know. Whether we choose to pass away in a natural way after living a normal life or end it at will with assistance is now, or soon will be an option that Canadians will have by law. Public opinion has shifted away from dying in a natural way and is now accepting assisted suicide as an alternative to prolonged suffering from terminal illness or injury.
We seem to be in a great stretch of good weather. The snow and ice are almost gone and we are still in the first part of March! The 14-day trend shows plus 10 temperatures for the entire time. Every good day now is one less day of winter if it does come back? Grass-fires are already a problem and we will need a good amount of rain in April/May, but for now I am going to sit back and enjoy it.
