A fire restriction has been issued in Foothills County effective April 22.

Foothills County is under a fire restriction as of April 22 due to an increasing risk of wildfires.

During the restriction, no fire permits for Class 1 or Class 2 burns will be issued and existing permits will be cancelled, reads a statement on the Foothills County website.

“The overall fire danger is increasing due to the current and upcoming temperatures, mixed with the wind speeds,” reads a statement on the Foothills County website.

“Although green-up is happening, there are many areas of extremely flammable, dead, and dry vegetation. These areas present a risk of fueling intense and fast-moving wildfires.”

Fire pits and campfires, barbecues, chimineas, indoor fireplaces, wood pellet smokers, incinerators and burn barrels no larger than 45 gallons can be used while the restriction is in effect.

“Although this is not a fire ban, the County will ask citizens to use extra caution and be extra vigilant when burning under what the restriction allows for,” the County said.

Foothills County said it will continue to monitor fire risk and will update the status as needed.
