Honour killings are simply murder

­I have to admit growing up and living in southern Alberta we may have a limited exposure and understanding to the goings on in the large metropolitan areas in this country. The case in point is the recent media frenzy over these honour killings that seem to be becoming more and more prevalent.

Special education needs special attention

Education Minister Dave Hancock trotted the long awaited policy for special education out this week.
This is a subject near and dear to me having a son that is the poster child of the current system I know inside and out.
Broad strokes first, anyone who has or knows of a child with a severe learning disability understands full well what happens. When the child begins school he or she is “coded” and from there they receive some kind of support whether it is puff grants or other supports. As time goes …

Oil spill a wake-up call

What is going on in the Gulf of Mexico right now may well serve as a big wakeup call to the Obama administration.
The global warming debate that is really full of hot air, if you ask me, has fuelled the attack on Alberta’s oil sands by some south of the 49th. Canadians need to have perspective

With all of the current uproar over the prorogation of our parliament I thought I should shed some light on what is happening.
Personally, I have to admit when Prime Minister Stephen Harper went through with the suspension of parliament, so as a nation we could enjoy and embrace some good old-fashioned patriotism; it made perfect sense to me. Look, I know the media down east towards the centre of the universe is beside themselves, who wouldn’t be? I mean they have nothing to write about now.
