The 100+ Women Who Care initiative in Okotoks is holding its second meeting on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Crystal Ridge Golf Course.

As reported in the Western Wheel on September 23, the concept is that one hundred women gather for one hour four times per year. Everyone in attendance writes a cheque for $100 and they vote on a charity to receive the funds.

The first meeting of the 100+ Women Who Care initiative in Okotoks resulted in a $2,600 donation to the Foothills Country Hospice.

If you would like to participate in this initiative you can register for the next meeting on their website at ttp://100womenokotoksandarea.weebly.com.

More information is also available from their Facebook page, 100 Women Who Care Okotoks and Area.

It’s a fact that a group of people working together as a team can achieve much more than the same number of people each doing their own thing.

Encouragement within the team can lead to extraordinary results and camaraderie that is only achievable by a group of people working together on a shared goal.

At this point you might be saying to yourself, “Tell me something I don’t know”.

I’m pointing out the obvious to highlight the problem I’m watching unfold right now. Somewhere along the way we have forgotten that we are all part of one large team called Canada.

An example of this was back in 2012 when Thomas Mulcair made an argument in the national news that energy exports from Alberta artificially raises the Canadian dollar and hurts the manufacturing industry in eastern Canada.

This “us vs. them” line of thinking creates resentment and the team begins to fold.

Hopefully we can find a way to get to a place of teamwork in Canada where we want to help each other across the country for the benefit of the nation as a whole. Our opportunities are endless here in Canada but we can only realize them if we are working with each other and not against each other.
