Where is the water?

Dear Editor, Those who ignore the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.

Dear Editor,

Those who ignore the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. So said some wise guy years ago and I was reminded of this the other day as I stood in our garden and surveyed Peggy’s poor little flower patch drooping for lack of water.

It is clear that Town Council either does not study history or has chosen to ignore it. We live in an area that is always subject to periods of drought. And what we have been experiencing recently is not even a drought but just a spell of hot dry weather.

In spite of that, according to their published blurb, it took our leaders totally by surprise. Apparently their minds are so focused on the creation of the 60,000 person metropolis that they have planned that they have totally forgotten the need to look after the folks that elected them.

Everywhere I look there are bulldozers and other devices busily building houses for new folks who presumably are hoping to suck on a water supply already inadequate for those of us already here. Each morning on our daily walk we pass by a brand new baseball diamond being built at the corner of Milligan Drive and the Air Ranch and see three huge siphons pumping water out on to the new sod at a rate that would keep our little garden in water for years. And there isn’t even anyone living there yet to use the facility. One of the excuses I have heard offered up is that council went ahead with all this construction thinking that the Provincial Government was going to come through with some new source of water. Really? Let’s be honest.

We cannot blame the weather and we cannot unload the problem onto some other level of Government. We did this to ourselves, or at least it was done to us by those we elected to look after our best interests and who failed to study the lessons of history. How sad!

Yours Truly
