Veterans Way should close during Remembrance ceremony

Dear Editor, Today I stood on Veteran’s Way to remember those who served in two world and other wars, and who did not come home or who came home broken for the rest of their lives. I also stood there to honour Canada’s commitment to peace.

Dear Editor,

Today I stood on Veteran’s Way to remember those who served in two world and other wars, and who did not come home or who came home broken for the rest of their lives. I also stood there to honour Canada’s commitment to peace.

During the summer Veteran’s Way was closed for two months for renovations, We all managed without that road. Four times during the summer months the Town closed streets in our downtown area for parades, chili cook-offs, etc.

Today, Nov. 11 – Armistice Day – motorcycles, commercial trucks, large furniture removal vans, cars, and big engined diesel trucks constantly drove up and down Veteran’s Way during the Remembrance service. They were noisy.

The meaning of the word “respect” is esteem, regard, admiration, deference, honour. That is why we were all at Veteran’s Way today.

I ask you, where is the respect from Administration and Council when they do not close Veteran’s Way for two hours on Nov. 11? This is clearly wrong and thoughtless.
