Traditions evolving at home

For the first time in my life I have a fake Christmas tree in my living room.

For the first time in my life I have a fake Christmas tree in my living room. The only thing stranger than bringing a tree from the outdoors into your house and decorating it is bringing a plastic tree that was manufactured on the other side of the planet into your house and decorating it.

A fake vs. real tree has been a topic of discussion between my wife Cory and I for a few years. I like a real Christmas tree, but she prefers one that doesn’t drop needles all over the place.

Last summer I was looking for something in the storage room. To my surprise there was a fake tree in a box down there. When I asked Cory about it she said that it “must have appeared from thin air”, which makes sense, as it was her Christmas wish last year.

This year my Christmas wish is for a real tree to appear in the kitchen on Christmas Eve. I believe that will come true.

Did you get your copy of the Okotokian magazine in your Western Wheel newspaper last week? It’s a spectacular publication if I do say so myself. If you missed it there are copies available at the Western Wheel office or at the Okotoks Recreation Centre. Have you ever heard of equine-assisted therapy? Did you know that learning to play chess is required for Edison School students? Well, you can read all about it in the Okotokian!
