Re: Recycling program a mistake – Chris Mills – December 9, 2015.
I agree whole-heartedly with Chris’ comments regarding the mandatory recycling and compost bins.
If Council were to implement a user fee for each time a bin is picked up, I would be more prepared to support their plan. According to Town officials, garbage trucks can track each time a refuse cart is emptied, so why not charge for the number of pickups for both garbage and recycling bins?
Another issue is that Council intends to make the recycling bins mandatory for residential users only for the first year.
Condo’s, multi-family units, businesses and other commercial users would not be subject to the recycling requirement for at least the first year!
If this is supposed to be a “universal” program, then don’t start it until all users in Okotoks are included.
