Fans going to Seaman Stadium to watch the home–team tonight will see the first-place Okotoks Dawgs.

Fans going to Seaman Stadium to watch the home–team tonight will see the first-place Okotoks Dawgs.

The Dawgs took over top-spot in the West Division of the Western Major Baseball League for the first time this season when they downed the Edmonton Prospects 6-2 last night in Edmonton.

The streaking Dawgs have won eight of their last 10 games, improving their record to 27-12. Meanwhile, the Medicine Hat Mavericks have dropped their last six games and are in second-place with a 27-13 record, a half-game back of Okotoks.

The Dawgs moved into first-place on the strength of catcher Joel Brophy’s three-for-four performance in the win over Edmonton. He had a pair of doubles and drove in two runs in the victory.

Garrett Ciuk picked up the win, pitching six innings to improve to 3-1. Taylor Davis came in to close the door, pitching three innings of shutout relief.

Okotoks will host the Lethbridge Bulls tonight at 7 p.m. The bulls have a 23-16 and sit four games back of the Dawgs in third place of the West Division.

The Dawgs are tickled pink with their winning streak.

They will play the Edmonton Prospects in the annual Wear Pink to the Park Day at home on July 23. Some of the Dawgs’ pink jerseys will be auctioned and the proceeds will go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Dawgs have also begun selling playoff tickets. For more information on the WMBL and Dawgs baseball go to dawgsbaseball.ca
