Congratulations to all of the Best of the Foothills Readers Choice Award winners! Thank you to everyone who voted and selected the gold, silver and bronze award recipients.

One of the things that I love about the Best of the Foothills Readers Choice Awards is the variety of the award categories. There’s everything from the Best Auto Dealership to the Best Place for a First Kiss. The Big Rock Erratic won gold as the Best Place for a First Kiss and I tend to agree that this is a romantic location. That’s where I asked my beautiful wife to marry me back in 2003 and to my surprise she said yes.

Love is like real estate. Location, location, location.

I saw something incredible on Sunday evening during that crazy lightning storm. I was driving back into town after taking my Grandpa-in-law back to his place in Calgary.

I believe that everyone on the road was guilty of distracted driving because it was hard to keep your eyes on the road when the lightning strikes in the area were coming down three at a time.

It was quite a storm to see. When I pulled into town I was headed south on 32nd Street. I had a clear view when lightning struck the top of the hill that’s immediately south of the Okotoks Home Depot.

I don’t know if the lightning hit a structure or if it hit the ground but after it struck there was an impossibly bright, white/blue light that lingered where the lightning hit for a good 5 seconds or so. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Did anyone else see this lightning strike or have any information about it? I’m just really curious to know more about what it hit and to have a better understanding of what I saw. Please contact me if you have more details on this and I will report back in my column for more on this story.

I had such a great time at the 25th Annual Okotoks Rotary Foothills Golf Classic on Monday. It was raining pretty steady in the morning and I was getting a little worried that the event would need to be rescheduled.

By the time we started playing at the D’Arcy Ranch golf course at 1 p.m. things had improved significantly. It’s remarkable how wonderful mostly cloudy weather with intermittent rain can seem.

Thank you to all of the sponsors and golfers who came out to raise funds with the Rotary Club for additional spectator seating at the Okotoks Foothills Crescent Point Regional Field House.
