Bragg Creek’s restaurant community will host a night to remember for guests to wine, dine and explore the hamlet.

The 6th annual Taste of Bragg Creek boasts a tasty array of foodie fun on April 13 from 5 to 9 p.m. The food-filled evening transitions into Taste in the Creek at participating stores and restaurants for the remainder of April.

“It’s not just our food and liquor purveyors, it’s actually going to be our retailers as well taking part this year,” said Mackenzie Walsh, a member of the organization and media relations for Taste of Bragg Creek. “This is a way to get people from Southern Alberta to come out and experience what Bragg Creek has to offer aside from just our outdoor activities and beautiful sceneries.

“It gives people an idea of the shops and really unique restaurants that we offer in Bragg Creek.”

This year’s event has almost thirty unique vendors participating. Parking and entry to the event is free. Tasting tickets, good for food and alcohol, can be purchased for $1.50 a piece. Walsh said that she anticipates that taster samples will range from one to six tickets a piece. She said the event is designed so guests should only need approximately 20 tickets to get their foodie fill.

“The community centre is the hub for the night,” said Walsh. “We encourage people to come here first… and encourage people once they’ve had a chance to see the community centre to walk over to our local shops and retailers.

“There’s something for everyone. Italian, French, Bavarian, coffee roasters, liquor vendors, there’s all kinds of things.”

This year participating restaurants, liquor purveyors and boutiques will be offering in-store promotions to pair with the festival. Participating vendors at Taste of Bragg Creek include The Bavarian Inn, Cowtown Beef Shack, Creekers Bistro, Creekers Liquor, Eau Claire Distillery, The Italian Farmhouse, The Powderhorn Saloon, RAW Distillery and Wild Rose Brewery.

Last year the tasting festival saw 1,200 guests visit. This year Walsh is hoping they can get closer to 1,500. The celebration is child friendly and families are encouraged to come.

A map will be provided so that guests can easily navigate the community and visit shops featured in the Taste of Bragg Creek.

Local store fronts and restaurants will be open late in conjunction with the Taste of Bragg Creek, offering specials for visiting guests.

The Taste of Bragg Creek is working with the Bragg Creek and Area Chamber of Commerce this year to help promote local businesses.

The event will be used to kick-off the tourist season, said Walsh, and said she hopes that guests from across Southern Alberta will visit the hamlet for the Taste of Bragg Creek.

“Bragg Creek actually has a lot of interesting business with a lot of unique things,” said Walsh. “It’s a neat little tourist scene and a fun little place to come and just check out something different.”

The Taste of Bragg Creek will also serve to highlight how the hamlet has recovered after the 2013 flood by showcasing the different entertainment, restaurant and shopping options in the area. Walsh said that Bragg Creek has opened new restaurant and shops recently showing how the hamlet is on the mend.

The pairing of Taste of Bragg Creek and Taste in the Creek will hopefully encourage visiting guests to return to the area to explore what the community has to offer said Walsh.

“We just want to remind people that we have a lot to offer here.”
