Snow angels a godsend

Snow angels are more than a children’s game in the snow, they’re a godsend to seniors and anyone else who isn’t able to shovel their sidewalks.

Snow angels are more than a children’s game in the snow, they’re a godsend to seniors and anyone else who isn’t able to shovel their sidewalks.

There’s nothing like a big snowfall to bring out the best in those wonderful volunteers who grab their shovels and help their neighbours keep their sidewalks clear.

This year’s snowy winter means there’s a lot of work to do.

Town bylaws require all sidewalks to be cleared of snow, ice and debris 24 hours after the snow stops falling.

The Town of Okotoks has put out a call for people to join the ranks of snow angel volunteers helping to keep sidewalks clear in the community. It maintains a registry where people can sign up to be connected with homeowners who need some help shoveling snow. People can contact the Town’s volunteer FCSS services to sign up. So far, the Town has nine people signed who need snow angels.

The Town’s program fills an important need, but it’s a task it hopes people take up on their own.

Becoming a snow angel is easy, all it takes is a shovel and a few minutes out of your day.

It only means a little extra leg work to keep going once your own sidewalks are clear, but it can make a world of difference.
