A severe thunderstorm warning and tornado watches have been issued for various parts of the Foothills this evening.

The tornado warning is in effect for Bragg Creek and tornado watches are issued for Priddis, Turner Valley, Black Diamond, Longview, Okotoks and DeWinton.

According to Environment Canada, weather conditions will be favourable tonight for the development of severe thunderstorms, which may produce tornados.

The thunderstorms are expected to begin early this evening and move east.

It is expected that the potential for a tornado will continue late into the evening for several hours after sundown.

A tornado touched down northeast of Okotoks on Sunday afternoon and several funnel clouds were seen in the area.

In the event of threatening weather, stay indoors and find a room on the lowest floor away from outside walls and windows, such as a stairwell or interior closet.

Anyone in mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other freestanding shelters are encouraged to take refuge in a strong building.
