Search and rescue fundraiser

My daughters walk in their sleep sometimes. A few years ago, our house alarm went off in the middle of the night. When we went to investigate we found our youngest was sleepwalking and had let herself out to the garage.

My daughters walk in their sleep sometimes. A few years ago, our house alarm went off in the middle of the night.

When we went to investigate we found our youngest was sleepwalking and had let herself out to the garage.

This could have turned out much worse. If we hadn’t set the alarm, she easily could have gone out the front door without waking us. Who knows where she would have wound up? How would we have found her?

This could happen so easily. There are countless situations like this where someone could go missing. When people go missing it often takes a coordinated team effort to find them.

Thankfully for us we have Foothills Search and Rescue to help us find our loved ones when missing. Foothills Search and Rescue is a volunteer, non-profit organization that relies 100 per cent on donations to be able to operate. The volunteers purchase their own equipment and donate their time to search as well as training required to keep their skills current.

When searching for a missing person the most critical piece of equipment is the mobile command centre. Foothills Search and Rescue is in desperate need of a new mobile command centre and fundraising is underway to purchase this essential piece of equipment.

There will be a BBQ steak dinner on May 27 at the Crescent Point Regional Field House by the Foothills Search and Rescue and Okotoks Rotary Club to raise funds for the purchase of a new mobile command centre. The original Mantracker Terry Grant is the guest speaker and this will be a wonderful evening out for a great cause.
