Okotoks restaurant owners got an application they won't soon forget Friday morning.

Emergency crews were left to clean up after an SUV jumped the curb and drove into the front window of the Okotoks Freshii location on Sept. 15.

Co-owner Cathy Mathieson said the driver was intending to come in looking for a job.

“He was a young guy, he was actually coming to hand off a résumé, looking for work,” he said.

She said they aren't hiring at the moment, but they hold no ill will for the driver.

“I feel so bad for him, he was very apologetic,” she said. “He was a very nice guy, you know it's one of those stupid accidents we all have.”

There were staff inside at the time and no one was injured. The restaurant's front sustained damage from the incident.

The store had to close for the day to clean up and board up windows.

She said fire personnel and RCMP were quick to respond and the property managers were quick to get repairs underway.

“Everyone was very responsive, the fire department was right here, the police was right here,” she said. “It's a bad situation but a great response from different people.”

She said they have insurance to cover the damage.

Okotoks RCMP Const. Joel DeGroot said it was a case of driver error.

“He just mistakenly took the gas pedal for the brake, jumped the curb and struck the building,” he said.

Non-criminal charges are pending in this incident, said DeGroot.
