A man armed with a pipe didn’t get away with much during an early morning robbery on New Year’s Day at an Okotoks convenience store.

A lone suspect entered the Mac’s convenience store on Milligan Drive and demanded money and cigarettes from the cashier at approximately 5 a.m. Jan. 1.

He was given $40 to $50, and two packs of cigarettes. He left and walked towards the Okotoks Recreation Centre parking lot.

The one person working in the store at the time was not hurt.

Okotoks RCMP Sgt. Sukh Randhawa said the clerk did the right thing by complying with the suspect’s demands and not putting up a fight.

“The clerk did exactly what he was supposed to do, hand over the cash and cigarettes demanded by the suspect,” he said.

A police dog was called in and the trail led a short distance where police recovered a sweater and a pair of winter gloves.

The suspect is approximately 30-years-old, wearing a mask and dressed in a black cap, black hoodie and black pants. He was carrying a GoodLife gym bag.

Anyone with more information can call the Okotoks RCMP at 403-995-6400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
