Reading fun in Longview

Joan, our librarian, has many Christmas activities planned for the children of the Longview School. On Wednesday, Nov. 18, Joan will be reading a Winter Story to the Kindergartens. They will make jingle bells and be treated to hot chocolate.

They will make jingle bells and be treated to hot chocolate. On Wednesday, Nov. 25, there will be storytelling for Grades 1 and 2, and they will make snowflakes from popsicle sticks and be served a cup of hot chocolate. And, on Dec. 3, Grades 5 and 6 will make table centerpieces depicting a winter wonderland scene, and have hot chocolate.

These dates may change as the time grows closer, so please confirm with Joan and watch the bulletin board at the Village Office.

The Longview Youth Group’s Bottle and Food Drive has been changed from November 2 to Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Crib Club meets every Thursday at 2 p.m. The Drop-In Knitting Group, meets every Wednesday at 2 p.m.

To honour Remembrance Day, Joan has arranged a display of war stories, both fiction and non-fiction for you to read.

On Nov. 4, there will be a Classical Music Concert presented by the Teichroeb girls, along with Sierra Butler, and Danah Boutin from 5:30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. in the library.

New non-fiction in is: Science is Beautiful – The Human Body Under a Microscope by Colin Salter, When the Earth Shakes by Simon Winchester, and The Walk by Philippe Petit.

A touching read is Summer of My Amazing Luck, by Miriam Toews, a Canadian award winning novelist whose book, My Puny Sorrows, was shortlisted for the Giller Prize in 2014.
