RCMP are looking for witnesses in a suspected case of arson at an abandoned home on McRae Street over the weekend.

Okotoks firefighters responded at 10:20 p.m. on June 3 to a report of a fire in an abandoned house at 165 McRae Street. The property is currently abandoned with heavy overgrowth of trees and grass on the front lawn.

Okotoks RCMP and fire department officials say the fire is believed to have been deliberately set.

Fire chief Ken Thevenot said it appears the front stairs were set on fire and damage was limited.

“It’s minor damage to the stairs,” he said.

No other buildings were affected.

Thevenot said the fire was quickly contained and there was little risk of it spreading.

No one was reported injured in the fire.

RCMP are investigating the incident.

Okotoks RCMP Sgt. Sukh Randhawa asked anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area or may have information to provide about the case to contact Okotoks RCMP at 403-995-6400. Anonymous tips can be made to CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
