Putting logging plans in perspective

Dear Editor,

Re: Timber Harvesting South of Highwood House

Referring to Norm Denney’s Letter: I’d like to compliment Norm on a very thoughtful letter, that looks at all users of the land in and around South Kananaskis.

As someone who gets out on the odd occasion, I am a user of the old (and new) logging trails. I’d venture to say that almost all recreation in South K uses some or many of these trails.

If you are a user of the area, you’ll benefit greatly by reading Gillean Dafffern’s book to guide you, but a word of caution: almost all hikes involve the use of logging trails, new and old.

I can agree with someone who does not use the trails and wants the area kept in a natural state (although a main highway accessing it can hardly be termed natural), but using logging trails to access areas, and then opposing the very industry that built those trails, seems a bit self-serving.

Thanks again Norm, for your consideration of all involved.
