Play through water hazards

About seven years ago I went golfing with my brother-in-laws Clay and Richard and my Dad. We were golfing at the beautiful Turner Valley Golf Course. There was a little sprinkle of rain when we started but it looked like it would blow over soon. Well, it didn’t blow over. In fact, it became a torrential downpour. We were determined to finish nine holes at least so we carried on. By the ninth hole every step was like jumping into a puddle. When we made our final putts on the ninth green the cup was full of water. I almost expected a frog to jump out when my ball went in.

The four of us finally got together again last Saturday for a golf game. The four of us hadn’t golfed together since that soggy game seven years ago. We were at the Foothills Stingrays Swim Club golf tournament at the spectacular Crystal Ridge Golf Course. There was a little sprinkle of rain when we started but it looked like it would blow over soon. You can see where this is going. It didn’t blow over. In fact, it became a torrential downpour. There we were once again. Cold rain coming at us sideways and we were soaked right through. Richard threw his 3-iron about 75 yards when it slipped out of his wet hands mid-swing. We haven’t gotten any smarter over the years and we were determined to finish nine holes. There wasn’t much conversation in the cart but one exchange with my Dad went something like this;

He says, “I’m going to get bronchitis.”

I reply “You don’t need to keep golfing, I can take you back to the clubhouse.” He says, “Are you quitting?” My reply “No.”

Naturally, he replies “Well I’m not quitting then either!”
