People need to speak up against plan

Dear Editor

The beautiful wilderness referred to by Carol Gauzer in her eloquent letter to the editor of the Western Wheel, is at immediate risk of the clear cutting in the Highwood area.

This is concerning for all the people that live and depend on the stability of the banks of the river, and for the quality and quantity of the water as it supports people and domestic and wild mammals and birds and plant species. The numbers of people that will be affected and upset reaches far beyond those of us living daily in the watershed area of the Highwood, that Etherington, Baril and Fitzsimmons creeks supply.

There are many people that come to embrace the beauty every week from may other communities and urban centres, like Calgary. The numbers would be staggering to know. I have seen the roadsides lined with cars and the campgrounds filled with campers and Highway 40 with steady traffic when the barriers are up. How do we get the message to those people to help us raise our voices, we need their numbers.
