  • Our Poppy Campaign began last week and we are preparing for our Remembrance Day service on Nov. 11.

There will be boxes at the service where we are accepting donations to the Okotoks Food Bank.

If you are able to donate, please bring canned and boxed items to the service.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by one of our members to raise money for a building in order to give Branch #291 a permanent home.

All donations will be gratefully received.

You can find the link on our webpage or Facebook page.

Any food or cash donations you may have for veterans and their families can also be dropped at the Okotoks Food Bank for the veterans’ section.

Opening times are on the website.

If you know a veteran who is struggling please contact the Legion via the website and we will make sure the information gets to our service officer so that we can assist.

Okotoks Branch #291 currently sponsors four cadet units within the Okotoks area: 187 Foothills Air Cadets, 2383 Foothills Calgary Highlanders Army Cadets, 205 Navy League Cadets and the Okotoks Sea Cadet Corps.

These cadet units have a wide range of activities for the youth of our community and we are proud that we can provide support to them in their endeavors.

They are always looking for more members and instructors/officers.

Please see their respective websites for more information.

Links will also be available on our Okotoks Legion website, along with their forecasts of events/activities.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Elks Hall on Elizabeth Street in downtown Okotoks.

Please keep an eye on the website (www.okotokslegion.ca) and the Facebook page (OkotoksLegion) for updates.
