Mulcair, Trudeau are not ready

I love to watch my teenage sons swear up and down that Justin Trudeau is not ready. They also have the key points rehearsed of why this is the case. Hate to say it but Thomas Mulcair isn’t and won’t ever be ready either.

I love to watch my teenage sons swear up and down that Justin Trudeau is not ready. They also have the key points rehearsed of why this is the case. Hate to say it but Thomas Mulcair isn’t and won’t ever be ready either. The brilliant ad the Conservatives have been playing the last few months must really be working, or at least I hope it has. Conservative leader Stephen Harper definitely had a method to this madness with an 11-week marathon campaign, his method being to expose the opposition for what they are, and wear them out financially. He knew he would take his lumps but was willing to gamble that the Liberals and NDP would as well.

As Mr. Harper planned, the NDP has been exposed for what they truly are: an undisciplined, reckless group that will put Canada on a collision course with economic disaster. We are already facing adversity with the price of oil and gas, it’s not just an Alberta problem but a national problem. Their pals in the global warming/ice age/climate change crowd (whatever they’re calling themselves this week) have created a billion dollar industry by using weather patterns to scare the daylights out of the common person. Every drought, flood, cold winter spells the end of mother earth as we know it with the evil fossil fuel producers/users at the root of the cause, of course. I am still trying to figure out how the dinosaurs caused global cooling - I want Alberta to be a tropical rainforest again!

While the climate change gang is at it, I wish they would protest over in China, and Saudi Arabia. Certainly they are some of the worst offenders. Wait a minute, that would get them arrested and thrown in jail over there, silly me.

From the environment to $15 a day daycare to the fact good old Tommy Mulcair has remortgaged his house 11 times, I count ourselves lucky we won’t have to endure a federal and a provincial NDP government. They have a plan at least – it’s to bankrupt Canada as they implement their reckless policies.

Now, on to Justin, the guy who budgets from the heart. He has as much depth as a piece of paper. He loves to tax, he is fine with running massive deficits and he wants to protect the middle class! By the way, who are the middle class again? I think I know a few of them. These are the people that count on a stable economy, who have the opportunity to income split and to save for the future.

Justin also wants to flood our borders with refugees from the Middle East, at the same time believing he can reason with ISIS. Sounds like he may not be ready.

To be Liberal, at its root meaning, is to be kind and gentle, to have new ideas and to discard traditional ones. I have to admit I kind of like our traditional values and Justin I am not talking about the CBC. For the record, I didn’t like your daddy’s National Energy Program either, but I digress.

I decided to look at Justin’s resume. Fortunately, no remortgage problems but he never had to worry about money, did he? A background as a part-time school teacher and full-time advocate for whatever liberal cause was interesting that particular week. Sounds lucrative, doesn’t it? The hair is solid and I will concede he is a good looking kid with nary a pimple on him. I still don’t see why he is currently rising in the polls, however. The eastern voters can’t be this uneducated, can they? In his platform he promises to help every minority, senior, child, puppy, and the list goes on. Perhaps that explains his increasing popularity. It may also be due to the anti-Harper bug biting late in the campaign.

One thing is certain, Canada is headed for change. Alberta has just seen it first-hand. I would say that we have had a great run. Harper has been a solid leader and Prime Minister. The rest of Canada, and even our own Premier, may not appreciate what Alberta and its fossil fuel based economy have provided for this great country. It will become clear very soon if Harper doesn’t win. We will see a coalition of NDP and Liberals running things and a shift to wealth redistribution that will drain whatever strength there is in our economy.

Everyone wants to hate oil, business, capitalists, and Conservatives. It’s popular these days. Too bad. We need Harper now more than ever. He is ready!
