Re. March 1 letter to the editor regarding performing arts center.
I was the principal author of the 2012 feasibility study on a new performing arts facility in Okotoks, and I take issue with some of the comments I’m seeing regarding our work. First of all, we did not recommend a new hall of 700 seats, but one closer to 300 to 400 seats that would be more responsive to the needs of community arts groups. Secondly, we identified several possible sites for new facilities, a couple of which were in downtown Okotoks. And finally, I would suggest that no site should be dismissed out of hand as being either laughable or tragic.
The location of these impactful but complicated facilities deserves careful consideration.
So, take the time and spend the money to do that properly. And, keep plugging away at this. As the fellow Canadian who taught me how to do this used to say: “It takes a long time for something to happen suddenly.”
