Heroes and Haggis!

This Saturday, Oct. 3 will be the 4th annual Wishmaker Walk for Wishes in Okotoks.

I love this year’s theme, Heroes and Haggis! Come dressed as your favourite superhero and support the little superheroes fighting life-threatening illness right here in our own community.

The event will take place at Seaman Stadium starting at 5:30 p.m. The great thing about this location is that if the weather doesn’t cooperate, we can move the party indoors at the Duvernay Fieldhouse which is located at Seaman Stadium.

There will be a one km walk followed by entertainment from local Celtic/East Coast band Haggis. Other event highlights include the Bhriomhar Irish Dance group, a BBQ provided by Sobeys Okotoks, bouncy castles, a candy truck and zumba!

I’ve been told by a reliable source that there will be some exciting surprises at the event that you won’t want to miss.

All proceeds from this event are given to the Children’s Wish Foundation to help them grant wishes to children who are battling a life-threatening illness.

On Tuesday morning I attended the Art of Branding event at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre with tourism and branding guru Roger Brooks.

The timing is perfect because we currently have a tourism slogan stating “There are a number of things to do in Okotoks.”

The Calgary Herald reported on this last week as the “saddest tourism motto ever” and the story has gone viral.

Everyone has been having some fun with this advertising blooper and it has drawn lots of attention to Okotoks.

Now we have an opportunity to make the most of this attention and attract more visitors to our beautiful town.
