Every year I say “I’m going to get my Christmas shopping done earlier next year.”
Inevitably, I’m usually running around in the final days before Christmas trying to tie up all my loose ends and getting my shopping done at the last minute.
This year, my wife said we were going to finish Christmas shopping early. In fact, she intended it to be finished over the weekend. With shopping done, she said we can beat the rush and enjoy Christmas more this year.
“But, we still have three weeks,” I said.
That’s how I do my Christmas shopping.
It’s probably a guy thing. In past years I could be found sometime around Dec. 23 (or, sadly, on the 24th) on a mad-dash shopping spree across Okotoks, and the Foothills.
My lovely wife, being more organized and a better planner than I, is trying to convince me there are better ways to prepare for Christmas, and it can’t be put off. There are gifts for family members that need to go out in the mail, and soon.
So, I suggest prioritizing gifts for her family in the Maritimes, then my sister’s family in B.C., then we can worry about shopping for the Albertans on our list later. The look I got in return said otherwise.
After a whirlwind of shopping, it’s mission mostly accomplished.
With Christmas in my wife’s hands this year, everything is going according to plan.
Presents for siblings and their families, got ‘em. Office gift exchange, check. As I write this, my lovely wife is at home putting together the final touches on gifts for her parents. I still need to get gifts for my parents and a couple friends. As it was pointed out to me – that’s all something I can wrap up over a lunch hour this week.
So, I’m in unchartered territory, I’m going to have my Christmas shopping done early this year.
Yes, dear. You were right.
