Free passes a good move

While we’re only one month into 2017, the excitement is already building around the numerous opportunities residents in the Foothills will have to celebrate our great country this year.

While we’re only one month into 2017, the excitement is already building around the numerous opportunities residents in the Foothills will have to celebrate our great country this year.

Communities across Canada are putting an extra effort and, in some cases, extra dollars into celebrating Canada’s sesquicentennial year – with many celebrations to take place on Canada Day.

In addition to these individual community celebrations, people are buzzing over the fact that Parks Canada is offering its Discovery Pass that gives free entry into national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites across Canada.

I’ve already ordered my free pass online and I look forward to receiving it in the mail.

Sometime during the next few months I plan to sit down and decide which national parks, conservation areas and historic sites I want to add to my list this year to take advantage of this cost savings.

This added incentive, of course, will result in more traffic in these already well-travelled regions of Canada, but it’s hard not to take advantage of the benefits.

Parks fees can be a hindrance for some people, particularly in this current economic slump, so it’s great to know that those who might have been limited before now have the opportunity to explore parts of Canada they may not have before due to this extra opportunity.

Kudos to Parks Canada for offering this unique opportunity to discover more of Canada and kudos to our communities for making this year a milestone to remember.
