Four hot golfers hit the links

A few months ago my Dad and I decided that it would be fun for the two of us to go on a golf trip down in Arizona. We flew down last Thursday, June 22, which was my Dad’s birthday.

When we planned this trip we knew it would be really hot there at the end of June. I didn’t really understand just how hot it was going to be. The daytime highs were +46C. Overnight it only cooled down to +31C.

When we arrived at the condo the air conditioner wasn’t working. It was even hotter inside than it was outside! I slept with a bag of ice on my head that first night. Thankfully Joe the air conditioner repairman was able to get it going the next day.

We were down there to golf and we weren’t going to let a little heat stand in our way. We golfed three days in a row and it was an adventure. Keeping our body temperatures down was almost as challenging as the golf. We had buckets of ice, wet towels on our necks and big straw hats. I drank more water in one round of golf than I would usually drink in a week.

The locals down there couldn’t believe that we would come down from Okotoks to golf in that blast furnace. It was a trip I will never forget. The fact that we were diligent enough to not get heat stroke was a big achievement. That said, if I ever go back to golf in Arizona, I think it will be in November.
