Fluoridation, Oh no. Not again

Dear Editor, I may no longer be a resident of the town, but as a scientist and one who has written before regarding the fluoridation of a human water supply, I can’t let it go by once again.

Dear Editor,

I may no longer be a resident of the town, but as a scientist and one who has written before regarding the fluoridation of a human water supply, I can’t let it go by once again.

There are many reasons to keep this toxic free radical away from the human body. It is a toxin, and regardless of what some may say, it has other serious side effects once inside the human body.

Add to this that 99 per cent of the water we use is flushed down the sewers or sprayed/added in some form into our environment and you have to ask why we would veer away from the sensible practices that are now in place. Aim the chemical directly at the site where it is needed in a safe and efficient manner.

Plus the expense of adding fluoride is not restricted simply to the purchase of the product. It needs special equipment that is regularly updated and maintained in order to add it, plus additional manpower, and it is very corrosive in acid or salt form.

In addition, how can we also justify as environmentally sensitive people the addition of this chemical in gay abandon to our community gardens, parks and rivers?

Over time, it will build in concentration throughout the ecosystem.

Wikipedia articles all warn of dangers of the accumulation of fluoride, especially in water run-off.

I don’t see how any oral hygienist with his/her own knowledge of science can argue with the above.

If you want to spend more time and energy over this matter, then perfect the programs you have created, and make them more efficient. Its just common sense!

Alternatively, give people a choice, and make some bottled waters available with fluoride added. That way we can all be happy regardless of the controversy!
