Family party a celebration

A Foothills village is bringing the community together for a Christmas celebration before things get really hectic in the coming weeks.

Longview is hosting its Community Christmas Party featuring pictures with Santa, a turkey supper and entertainment from local bands at the Longview Community Hall Dec. 4 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“It’s really good for the community,” said Carole MacLeod, deputy mayor. “It’s an opportunity for everybody to get together and socialize because Christmas is so busy and a lot of people leave to be with their families or go away for Christmas.

“It’s a really good opportunity for people to get together and celebrate Christmas.”

The 12th annual free Community Christmas Party is open to residents in Longview and the surrounding MD with funding provided by Family and Community Support Services.

The party begins with pictures with Santa and gifts for children at 4 p.m.

Seating for the turkey supper is at 5 p.m. and entertainment will be provided by local musicians Eva Levesque, Cody Follis and the Highwood Hillbillies from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Last year’s event drew about 300 people.

“It’s an event we all look forward to every year,” said MacLeod. “Everybody comes and enjoys a nice dinner and it’s a nice way to socialize with our neighbours.”

Those interested in having their children’s picture taken with Santa are encouraged to contact the village office at 403-558-3922 to register.
